New Group Treatment Program Offers Hope for Adults with Eating Disorders
The Centre for Clinical Interventions (CCI) has launched a new evidence-based group treatment program aimed at helping adults manage Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder through practical, skills-focused therapy.
The Eating Disorders Group Treatment Program is a 12-week structured intervention grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a widely researched approach that targets the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. The program is designed for individuals aged 18 and over who have an eating disorder that does not require weight restoration.
Participants attend weekly two-hour sessions in small groups, with two additional follow-up sessions held one and three months after the program concludes. All sessions are conducted during standard business hours, Monday to Friday.
Key components of the program include:
- Understanding the psychological and behavioural factors that maintain disordered eating
- Self-monitoring to understand and make changes to eating patterns
- Strategies to manage binge eating, purging, and compulsive exercise
- Techniques to tolerate distress without resorting to harmful behaviours
- Body image work to foster acceptance and reduce appearance-related distress
- Relapse prevention and long-term self-management planning
For those struggling with eating disorders, this program offers a structured, supportive path toward recovery and improved emotional wellbeing.
The program is not suitable for individuals with Anorexia Nervosa, as it does not include weight restoration components. Referral forms, and further information about eligibility can be found here on the CCI website.
