Panic Disorder Course
The CCI Panic Disorder Course is a structured group treatment focused on equipping you with practical skills and strategies to manage panic attacks. Our treatment uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT is based on the concept that our emotions and actions are largely influenced by our thoughts. CBT can teach you techniques and strategies to modify unhelpful thoughts and behaviours so that you can better manage your panic attacks. Treatment strategies include:
- Learning about common symptoms and maintaining factors of panic disorder
- Identifying and challenging beliefs that can lead to panic attacks.
- Devising a plan to gradually approach situations and sensations that you have been avoiding.
Each Panic Disorder Course runs for 6 weekly sessions of 2 hours, with a follow-up session 4 weeks after the 6th session; groups are run periodically throughout the year. All appointments take place during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm). The Panic Disorder Courses run by clinical psychologists and held at our clinic in Perth, Western Australia. As CCI forms part of the public mental health system, the service we offer is free. If you are interested in attending the Panic Disorder Course at CCI, please ask your GP or psychiatrist to refer you to our service.
